52 Teapots: 4-6

Handles.

3 different handles on these teapots. Mixed results.

I had never made a lug handle before, so this is a completely new form for me. I've never held a lug-handled teapot, much less actually used one. Looking forward to finishing this one up so I can give it a test-run.

4

5. and 6. are both handles that I have done before. I am a big fan of the overhead handle (I'm sure there is a proper term for this type of handle, but I don't know it.)  The teapot that I use on a regular basis is that style. It's just nice looking and comfortable to use. I think the next batch will have that style handle. And I will be playing with the spouts.

5

6

I guess I am sort of using these first several teapots as "warm-ups." Trying to figure out what I like and don't like about them. For these three, I am not a fan of the spouts. I am also finding it difficult to have a smooth transition between the body and the spout. It just looks so "stuck on." I will be working on that point of transition in the next teapots. And playing with the spout. I was intentionally making the body, lid and spout similar for 4-6, so that I could just focus on the differences between the handles. And unfortunately, now I have 3 teapots with spouts that kind of annoy the hell out of me.

Hi Kings Creek- thanks! I'm excited for the next few- starting to get a better feel for the form. And I have some decoration ideas I'm dying to try once I get a shape I like.

Hi Trish! Thank you- I will need the luck once I hit #20 or so... Good luck with the cake plates, let me know if you have any questions!

I've never made or used a teapot with a lug handle either, I think I might drop it. I feel safest with the traditional handles. All your teapots look great! Have fun with your next series of spouts!

Hi Gina- I'm curious about the lug handle. I think I will glaze fire it this week and give it a test run. Now that I've looked at some more photos of lug handles (um, yeah, probably should have done that first), I see that it probably isn't quite ergonomically correct. The lug should actually tilt up. And perhaps be a bit wider. We'll see!

I will give lug handles more focus in the {near} future. They intrigue me.
